Sleep quality is critical for health, and the right mattress can make a significant difference—especially for those with back issues or sleep disorders. I tested the Naturepedic Serenade, a queen-sized eco-friendly mattress made from cotton, wool, and coils, for a month. The Firm version provided firm support while offering slight give, improving comfort for back and side sleepers.
I tested the mattress with my wife, dog, and cats, using an Apple Watch to track sleep patterns. The mattress’s construction included five layers: a quilted top layer of cotton, wool, and PLA, an organic latex comfort layer, a cotton insulator, and an 8-inch spring layer with individually wrapped coils. The mattress was 11 inches deep, well-constructed, and GOTS-certified organic, with a 25-year warranty (decreasing refund after 10 years).
The mattress’s eco-friendly credentials included recyclability and donation partnerships. While it transmitted motion slightly, it was breathable and cool, reducing heat buildup. However, heavier testers felt individual springs, and edge resilience was moderate. The Serenade’s price ($1,599) was competitive with similar hybrid mattresses, though pricier than alternatives like the Avocado Eco Organic ($1,439). Overall, it offered a good balance of support and comfort for those prioritizing sustainability and durability.
